Emergence and meaning of the calligraphies

These calligraphies can be viewed simply as an abstract, meditative work of art. It is not necessary to understand the deeper meaning or origin of the main calligraphy, the Chinese characters or the stamp to enjoy these images.

Such a calligraphy decorating in a meditation, TaiChi, or yoga room can unfold its effects on its own.

But to satisfy natural human curiosity, here is a more detailed description.

Meaning of calligraphies

Main calligraphy

Main calligraphy

This part of the picture is inspired by a small section of the TaiChi form. In each section, the left and right hands move forward or backward, up or down, left or right. The brushstrokes that make up the calligraphy depict these movements. What is at the front or high in the movement is shown at the top in the calligraphy, what is at the back or low in the movement is shown at the bottom.

The left hand is represented in color, the right hand in black. The brushstrokes that represent the left hand are also painted with the left hand.

Each section contains a yin and a yang phase, the change of phases is represented by the strength of the brushstrokes.

Chinese characters

Chinese characters

Because TaiChi has a very long tradition, I have chosen the traditional way of writing the Chinese characters.

These characters simply represent the name of the TaiChi style and the name of the movement.

On each picture appears: Yang style TaiChiChuan (楊式太極拳)

The name of the movement e.g.: White crane spreads its wings (白鶴晾翅)

The stamp

stamp

The stamp is my signature on the calligraphy. It is shown in the style of small seal script and means devil's rock.

It is also derived from my name (Eördegh Péter):
In Hungarian, the family name is written first and translated, "Eördegh" means "devil". For "devil" I chose the character 魔, which also means "magical".
The meaning of "Péter" is well known: "stone / rock", so I chose the character 岩.
This creates the signature: 魔岩.

Long exposure photos in the dark with LED gloves

I wanted to take photos of the movements with a long exposure time to see what the movements really look like

To get black and red "lines" on a white background, I needed white and green LED gloves. After taking the photo, it was enough to invert the color of the photo and edit the colors slightly.

The corresponding calligraphy looks a little different because the photo depicts a three-dimensional movement with a simple projection onto 2D. The calligraphy, on the other hand, also shows that, for example, a hand is moved backwards - this does not come across in the photographic recording.

Not all movements can be shown in this way; in some cases the camera would have to photograph the movement from above.
